Baby products 101

My sister-in-law didn’t know what to register for for her first baby shower, so I gave her some ideas and tips what products she should get. After having 3 kids, we have gone thru many different products, and found that there are some frivalous and bad products out there.

I’ve compiled a list of products that we liked and disliked. This is based on our own experiences and our personal opinions.

  • Diaper genie or diaper champ…waste of money. We had both products w/our first baby. No matter what the product claims, it still smells, and you have to buy their bags for the diaper genie. You’re better off using a trash bag and dump it out when it’s full.
  • Baby bathtub…we have no need for this. I bought one for Tyler, our first kid, and it was more work and more cumbersome to use. The bathroom sink was used on our other 2 kids, and it worked just as good. Sophia (10 months) still takes bath in the sink.
  • Lansinoh nursing pads…the BEST product I’ve found. I’ve used many other ones and it just didn’t come close to what they promise.
  • Bubble free bottles…forget it! I’ve used the Dr. Brown bottles w/our first child, Tyler, and it was a lot of work washing them. There are many parts to wash. We’re using plain old Gerber bottles with Sophia and she doesn’t have any gas problems, I’m not talking about farting.
  • Little potty chairs or seats…again, a waste of money. We have 2 different kinds, and now they are collecting dust somewhere in the basement. Just remember back while you were growing up, did your parents use any of these gadgets? I didn’t think so and looked how you turned out. Our 2nd son, Trent, never liked it and he’s on the real toilet w/no problem.
  • The best and most expensive high chair…WHY? We bought one for $19.99. It’s one of those portable seats, all you have to do is put it on a chair, buckle it in of course, and it works just as good w/a tray. Ours is 5 years old and still works fine.
  • Breast pump…hand pump vs. electric pump. I had both hand and electric pumps from Medela. The hand pump worked just as good if not more convenient than the electric one. And costs less too.
  • Stroller…make sure it has a cup holder for your drinks and one where your baby can be facing you or forward.

Happy shopping!!
