Meet me at Fleming’s!

Thanks to my sister for babysitting our three little rascals, we were able to go on our ”overdued” and rare date last night!

After getting dressed (anything else besides jeans and sweats), our very observant and smart five years old son, Tyler, said “where are you going Mommy?”

I said “Mommy’s taking Daddy to dinner and a movie for his birthday .”

Tyler said “Why can’t we go with you?  And to a movie?  You can’t go to the movies!! (big frown from him)”

As we were having this conversation, our three years old son Trent ran to me and mumbled “I wanna go too!”

And as if Sophia knew (our 10 months old daughter), she crawled in such speed towards me wanting to be picked up.

This went on for about 15 minutes and we had to leave for a 7:30 reservation (it was already 6:30, Friday night’s traffic can be brutal in Boston), so my husband asked the magic question “who wants to watch TV?”

And both boys yelled “me, me!”

So the diversion worked!  We snuck out of the house so fast, my coat got stuck in the door (Phew!  Almost got busted!)!

Our friend and my sister suggested we go to Fleming’s, she said they had THE best steaks.  We got seated at a nice booth (at my request for a special occasion).

Fleming's

We told each other to enjoy our meals and not to rush (we’re so used to ”chew and screw” when we had the kids with us).

Pathetic as this might sound, but we haven’t been out on a date for so long (last time was in Sept. 2005 but that was a wedding), we didn’t know how to eat leisurely or how to have a conversation without being interrupted ten times in mid sentence, or having our legs pulled for attention from one of the kids.

Each time we talked about something engaging, the conversations always come back to our adorable kids and how much we missed them.  But that soon changed when dinner was served.

OOOOH, the dinner was sooo delicious, to say the least!  It was THE best steaks we’ve ever had!!  Boy, talk about free advertisement for Fleming’s huh?!

What they do at Fleming’s is to cook their steaks at 1600 degrees after aging the steaks for four weeks.  Boy, talk about having eyes that are bigger than my tummy.  I ordered a 22 oz Ribeye steak with the bone in, and my Birthday hubbie had a New York strip steak.  We also ordered a bottle of red wine to go with the steak at the recommendation of the waiter.

The whole time we were drinking that nice wine, all I thought about was how much diapers and formulas we can get with that one bottle of wine.  WHAT?!  It’s the frugal Mom in me, alright!!

After dinner (and No I didn’t finish that huge COW I called my dinner but I did MOO like one afterward though!  My hubbie finished the rest, and we finished every drop of that expensive wine.  Apparently, they don’t allow you to wrap it home!), the waiter brought out a complimentary birthday dessert.

The dessert was just as scrumptious!  The chocolate cake was oozing with melted and warm chocolate, with two scoops of vanilla ice cream with pistachio wafer.

Alright, I think somebody needs to wheel us out of the restaurant NOW!!  We were at Fleming’s for three hours.  Now THAT was THE longest dinner we have ever been to, and it was worth every single second.  Who needs to go to the movies anyway?!

We got home around 11:30 and my sister was surprised to find us home so early.  We told her that if we went to the movies, I’m afraid we might be snoring away and be in la la land even before the lights were turned off.

We had so much fun on our date that my hubbie asked when’s the next time she can babysit.  She left so fast that there were skid marks on the driveway *scratching my head, puzzled*!!
