Nissan Quest’s “service bulletin”.

This is an update to my other entry (Mommy’s “loser’s cruiser” a.k.a. Minivan!).

If you have a 2004 Nissan Quest…you must have heard this really annoying “grinding” noise every time you accelerate.  The best I can describe that noise is like someone’s sharpening knives with a sharpening machine.

I have brought our van to two different dealerships for them to fix that annoying noise.  But after four times, the mechanics couldn’t find where the noise was coming from.  They said that it “could” be the “heat shield”.  But still the problem didn’t get fixed.

I brought my van in for a 2nd recall *eye rolling* this past week, and asked the mechanics to take a look at that “noise” problem again.  Six hours later, I picked up the van and was told that they have pinpointed where and what that “noise” was.

They told me that Nissan has sent them a “service bulletin” recently and they were able find out what it was!!  It was the FRONT EXHAUST TUBE SUPPORT BRACKET, and the old bracket we had…cracked!  Hence, the noise!!

I was relieved that they finally figured out the problem but at the same time very perturbed that they (the Nissan people) didn’t mention any of this IF I didn’t mention anything about the “noise”!!  That should have been another recall, I think!!

I’m sure my van is not the only one with that problem, otherwise, Nissan wouldn’t have sent out a “service bulletin” to their mechanics.  There must have been alot of complaints about this and Nissan finally figured it out that they have a problem on their hand (corporate America at work!)!!

So, if your van has this problem, I recommend you calling your local dealership and bring your van in for repairs.  Don’t hold your breath for Nissan to call you.  The bracket probably gets broken in two on the road and who knows what can happen to you and your van then!

We have a similar “grinding” noise on our Isuzu Axiom whenever we brake. Took it to the dealership several times and they finally changed out both front & back brakes thinking that would solve the problem…NOT!!! Took it back the fifth time and all they can say is it’s a “concern,” but it shouldn’t affect the way the SUV performs. We’re about to give up on this vehicle. I think I’m going to write a letter to the corporate office about this problem, maybe they will figure out what to do with it.

It sure is frustrating when you think you’re getting what you paid for.

My wife is on her way to the Nissan dealership with your information printed out for the mechanics. We are going to the 3rd Nissan dealership in the area because the first two couldn’t fix that acceleration noise that occurs from 1900-2000-2100 rpms. The first dealership told us that we broke something in the exhaust system and our estimate of $2800 was for replacing the entire exhaust system because they couldn’t find the part that was broken. The second replaced the muffler under warranty because it was cracked. Will post again if they front exhaust tube support bracket were the problem. Love the van: hate the rattles.
