Household products that I can’t live without!
If you are a Household Engineer (a.k.a. stay-at-home Mom), there’s no doubt you are the “Jill of all trade” and the “CEO of many home-based businesses”. You could be the CEO of a laundromat one day, a four star chef the next, or the President of a very busy cleaning service.
So there are a bunch of products that I have “endorsed” and can’t live without. I’d like to share some with you, and if you have some products that you swear by in your busy daily life as “CEO’s”, do share them with the rest of us. This is brainstorming at its best!
HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS…
- Swiffer Sweeper and WetJet…This is a great product for any uncarpeted rooms. Sophia, our 10 months old, is crawling everywhere and putting everything in her mouth. So, I dust the floor with the Swiffer Sweeper once a week. It gets so dusty because of the heat. Thank goodness we don’t wear shoes in the house, I’d have to clean every other day and put Sophia in a body suit for her to crawl around. What I do first is to use the cloth to dust the dining tables, the TV or any other surfaces and then use the same cloth for the floor. The Swiffer WetJet is great for anywhere that’s not carpeted. And cleaning puke stain or food stain is a cinch, just throw the cloth away when you’re done. If you don’t have this product already, go to http://www.homemadesimple.com/sites/en_US/swiffer/usenglish/index.shtml for $5 coupon for the WetJet starter kit, and $1 off on refills.
- Clear container tubs…you can purchase these at any Walmarts, Targets, or BJ’s. You can read about my usage of these tubs in (Decluttering your house).
- Wet/Dry vac from Brookstone…This is great for those fast pick up of spilled cheerios, or spilled milk. And Brookstone has great service in that if any of their products break down…they will give you a replacement, no questions asked.
- Steam Wizard from Sharper Image…if you’ve read my (Parenting quick tips and ideas) entry, you’ll know that this was the best investment we’ve ever made!! If you have young children…this is a must have!! We’ve used this so many times (I can’t even count it) to clean puke stains, milk and other unsightly and smelly stains.
- Clorox Disinfecting Wipes…I don’t l like to clean (who does, right?!) so when there’s a product that helps make cleaning fast and easy…I’m all there. This product is great for the bathrooms, the stove and any other surfaces that need fast disinfecting.
- Roomba Discovery by IRobot at Brookstone…My husband bought me this to make my cleaning chores easier (how thoughtful of him you say!) or should I say make his life easier. This little Robot goes where you wouldn’t go like under the bed, under the couches or dressers. We were glad that we bought it at Brookstone because it broke once and they replaced it with a new one, no question asked. And you didn’t even need to show them the receipt or buy additional warranty from them.
- Good old toilet plunger…the simplest and oldest tool in the book, but it still works like a charm. Must have if you have little rascals whose idea of fun is stuffing the toilet with plenty of toilet paper.
- Arm & Hammer Baking soda…you can use this product for almost anything around the house, baking, getting rid of odor in the fridge or use a little of it to get rid of stinky and stained carpet like puke stains (carrot is definitely good for kids but not very good smashed and regurgitated all over the carpet *puke puke*).
- Tilex-Mildew removal for shower stalls…this got to be the best products for the lazy cleaners like myself. Just spray the shower stall and the shower door. Let it stand, and rinse it with water…and voila!! Bye bye mildew!
- Febreeze…if you love to cook seafood for the family but afraid that the house might smell like five day old fish? This is a great product to get rid of odor and germs as well. It’s safe for most fabrics. If this doesn’t work for you, I’d boil some water and add a good amount of vinegar to it. This is the most economical way to get rid off cooking odor.
Products that are not worth the investment and the time:
- Rowenta clothes steamer…I bought this to save some money on the hubbie’s drycleaning bills…but it was a waste of time and money. The iron would have been a better choice. It was awkward to steam a shirt that’s propped up instead of a using an ironing board.
Good luck with your multi-business ventures!
