You want a drink with that popcorn
Yesterday, I took my 5-year-old, Tyler, to see Cars. We haven’t done a mother-son day out in a while. And also this was his reward for being helpful around the house when the hubbie is travelling.
Before we left for the movies, I opened the pantry and asked Tyler what he’d like to bring to the movies, he said popcorn. I was about to make the popcorn to bring with me, but my hubbie was giving me that incredulous look so I guess I can fork over $3.50 for a small popcorn. But I’m bringing a water bottle for both of us!
Have you seen how much they jacked up the price for the snacks at the movies? Like 350% or something! I can buy a whole box of 6 packs of unpopped popcorn for the same amount. How ridiculous is that?! The price of admission is already highway robbery, and I’m talking about the matinee price.
Man, you folks must think I’m such a cheapo of a Mom, let me correct you on that, I’m frugal with the capital F. But I bet you, there are other parents out there who would agree with me on this. Give me a shout out folks, let me feel the love here. Don’t let me hang!
There are things that I wouldn’t mind spending money on, like children’s books for instance. A good book will last for a while, unless your 17 month-old decides to gnaw at it. And not only that, I’d like to teach my children the value of money. I want them to know it’s ok to be frugal but not being CHEAP! I detest cheap people, espcially rich cheap people! Well, I guess they are rich for being cheap right?!
Oh so I digress, getting back to the movies. Before the movie starts, we saw the preview of the upcoming movies, and I’m glad they did show preview of appropriate movies for children, instead of R rated movies. There is one coming up with Mark Wahlberg in Invincible. I’m a sucker for football or baseball movies, not to mention that I’m a huge fan of Mark Wahlberg-a hunk in my eyes (don’t let the hubbie know!). Anything that involves an underdog-overcoming-struggles-to-triumph theme, and I’m there. My other favs of sports movies were Remember the Titans, and A League of Their Own.
We did see Cars. But I was very disappointed with Pixar. Toy Story was one of our favorite movies, but Cars was slow, not too funny, and half way through the movie my son wanted to go home. But we stuck it out because we have to get our money’s worth, ya know! Now, can I get a refund for the movies?! *grinning*

Ha! We ALWAYS stuff our pockets with candy and treats for the movies. Of course it’s much easier in the winter when we have coats with huge pockets.
The movies are expensive enough, I’m not gonna shell out another $15 on junk that they don’t need in the first place.
Didn’t you love the movie?!
Or at least I hope you did now that I phrased the question that way.
I am the same way!!! I hate spending money on snacks at the theater. We sneak stuff in my purse or the diaper bag, and sometimes pockets. I do not feel bad about it, even though I probably should.
Hey, I liked Cars. ‘Mater was awesome!
