“I’m calling in sick”
As you stay-at-home-mom/dad knows, our “job” requires us to be “on call” 24/7, 365 days/year, and the perks ain’t that great! And forget about the pay!! What pay?! You’re under the weather? Plug a tissue up your nose to prevent from snot-dripping and you’re as good as new. Fever? Body ache? Migraine? Suck it up and get back to work! Kids need to be fed, house needs to be cleaned, toys have to be put away, laundry has to be washed, blah blah blah. You’re saying yadi yadi yadi now aren’t you?!
ME TOO!! But really I am SIIIIICKKKKKKKKKK!
I think it has something to do with this yo-yoing of weather, one day it’s nice the next day it’s sauna-stickiness-humid heat. Last night before bed (that’s around midnight after reading blogs, and writing posts, I know I’m not aiding my illness any!) this was my converation with the hubbie about my being under the weather.
Me: “I.am s.i.c.k!” (pouting and dragging out the words for effect)
Hubbie: “Take some medicine then.” (being the practical guy that he is)
Me: “No, I’m going to call in sick tomorrow!” (more pouting for more effect)
Hubbie: “OK!”
And that was it! It’s just nice to be able to voice that wish but not actually GET to do it. Who’s going to bring home the bacon in the mean time? That’s the sucky part of this job. You just have to suck.it.up like the rest of the masses out there today.
As we were driving to get some household stuff, i.e. toilet paper etc…, (I swear we’re going to need to get this done more often with our frequent trips to the bathroom), I heard that the heat index will reach as high as 110 degrees today.
And in this kind of heat, the subway trains have to travel more of a snail pace than normal so that the tracks don’t warp under this intense heat. Nice and comforting huh?! Not to mention that there are no A/C whatsoever on a lot of trains. It will be packed like sardines (my poor Mom and sisters), sticky and sweaty elbows rubbing one another, not to mention the interesting scent waffing in the air. I just hope everyone remembers to take care of their personal hygiene (raise your hand if you’re SURE) a little better today.
Alright, I’m not b!tching any more about this hot-as-hell heat! At least we just hire this maid to do all of our cleaning. And not to mention that I can sit in my A/C house with clothing being optional (get your mind out of the gutter people!!)Â How about you? How do you keep yourself and your family cool in this heat?

Hey, does your maid do windows? If so, send her over to our place. Our little 2′ maid not only doesn’t vacuum, she’s gotten into this habit of sprinkling the floor with bread crumbs. Non-stop fun!
Hope you’re feeling better. Stay cool.
When it’s hot outside, we stay indoors and catch up on the Netflix movies. Or go to the beach (or somewhere closer to the beach)
Being sick in the summer is the worst. I can’t complain because it has been cool here lately. Godd luck and feel better soon!
Looks like she did a pretty good job on those floors! they are super clean!
It’s been nearly impossible to keep my 3 year old indoors. We bribed him with movies, popcorn and root beer (HUGE and VERY special treats at our house) over the weekend as it was just too hot for him to run around outside.
Get better!
Aww, so sorry you’re sick - yuk.
I know so many people who get summer colds. Seems weird to me, but then I rarely get sick.
btw, LOVE the pics you keep posting of your kids. They are the world’s cutest ever!
Get well soon!
Awwww. What an adorable maid!
My kids are sick…almost as bad as me being sick, especially when hubby is out of state this week.
Oh and I wouldn’t worry about the interview. Have you read HBM? She mentions you in her post about that.

I think that photo sums it up nicely — put them to work!
We go to movies. And indoor mall playgrounds. And the pool.
Our temperature gauge on the back patio read 123 degrees a few days ago…I thought my kids might melt into puddles on the cement! On these “hot as the seventh circle of hell” days we stay inside…watch movies (Shrek is a FAV right now!) and do exercise videos to get out the wigglies. (My son’s favorite exercise video is Tao Bo!!) I also have a mini-tramp that helps get out the jiggly-wiggly stir craziness! And ocassionally we visit the really great aquatic center in a nearby town.
Other than that…we simply sweat our brains out!!
(Thanks for swingin’ by my blog! I am always so excited to visit new blogs…yours is wonderful!)
We walk around naked (JJ). We eat ice cream and water the plants. I’d let the kids runt hrough the sprinklers but that would not fall under correct water conservation– so I water the kids too.
Summer sickness suuucks. Or blows, which ever term you prefer.
I could use your ‘maid’ at my place. I’ll pay her double for being so darn cute while vacuuming. I never look that cute while I’m vacuuming. Damn.
We just avoid going outside during the hot times, which really stinks for the kids. We also go to the pool a lot. We’re in Florida…it’s always hot here.
Your maid sure is cute! Feel better soon
Ugh. I’m so sorry!! Hang in there!
Get better soon!
Being sick in the summer SUCKS! I hope you feel better already, by the time this comment finds you.
Ugh ugh ugh. Totally feel your pain.
Feel better.
