Rotisserie chicken anyone
I’m totally burnt to a crisp and looking like a lobster from seven hours at Wingaersheek beach today. The kids built sand castles, splashed in the cccccold water (only 78 degrees), chased seagulls, ate and drank from an overpacked cooler that I proudly prepared the night before. But we (my sisters and I) sure had a good laugh every time the mention of that “cornucopia” cooler, and its content, comes up in conversations.
Everyone in my family knows that I love to pack (crazy huh?!) and that doesn’t have to be just for vacations. So, I volunteered to prepare the food for our trip to the aforementioned beach today. Let’s just say the fridge was empty by the time I was done stuffing the cooler with food, drinks and a…rotisserie chicken. Yup! You read it right! A rotisserie chicken (store bought) to the beach.
Between three adults and seven children we devoured:
- twelve eggs
- five pounds of pastas
- six hotdogs
- six pounds of strawberries
- four pounds of grapes
- two bags of shrimp chips (at your local Asian grocer or I just found this on Amazon.com…who would have thunk it?!)
- three pounds of buffalo wings (I almost got pecked by the seagulls while gnawing on these)
- a loaf of home-made garlic bread
- four pork buns
- six ears of corn
- and a bunch of water/juice boxes.
Noone dared to dissect and consume the rotisserie chicken with a flock of flying seagulls, vying for any morsel of food, overhead. But we sure had a bellyful of laughs picturing me dragging a rotisserie chicken to the beach!!
Also, I was laughing out loud while taking this picture of Trent trying to “catch the wave” literally. Every time the wave comes towards him, he would “catch” it with his hands while exclaiming “AYAH!”

How about you? What have you packed to the beach, in the past, that has become a family joke time and time again?
This week’s theme is “laugh” at mamasaysom. There are other submissions here, so go check it out folks!

A bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken. I like walking around with the bucket on one arm and a drumstick in the other hand.
It drives my wife crazy, but I think it’s funny.
Tony~You are my kind of beachgoers!! I LOVE KFC! And I did mention bringing a bucket of KFC next time to the beach, but both my sisters rolled their eyes and said “who’d bring KFC to the beach?!” So I’m not the only one here! And drumsticks are my favs!!
Tony…how many times do I have to tell you? Popeyes chicken is MUCH better than KFC! We always bring it to the beach. Is there anything better than cold fried chicken? Otherwise, we always try to find a deli and grab some old-school Italian subs, a bucket of pasta salad, and a giant bottle of Diet Coke.
Popeye’s Chicken is the devils food…only because it causes me to insanly make yummy noises as I consume as much as I can.
I was just thinking that the next time I want to go to the beach I’m calling you to join me (as long as you bring the cooler) but now I think that I’ll invite Tony as well.
Hope your sunburn is healing!!
I just wanted to tell you that your link still isn’t working for Pass the Torch Tuesday. I see you’re in Mr. Linky, but there’s an error with the link and it takes me to a blank page. This is the most recent post I see here. Any ideas?
I haven’t packed too much for the beach, unfortunately.
Here via MSO. Wingaersheek is the best beach in the area for kids. I usually underpack and we all end up eating stale Goldfish carckers from the bottom of my bag. Next time maybe you’ll sit next to us! I’ll share my SPF 5000, which I;m never without.
Karrie~You’re welcome to share my overstuffed cooler any time! I’m loving that SPF 5000 of yours! Since we are looking more and more like George Hamilton’s relatives every day that the sun is out!
That was one full cooler! I live in the desert so every time I pack for the beach it is a full suitcase, when we go to Miami or California.
Wow, we tend to forget to eat if we’re at the beach… if it wasn’t for my Aunt, the hors-d’oeuvre’s supplier, we would’ve starved. Okay, no, probably not. But she brought fresh-baked Tastefully Simple Beer Bread, and Tastefully Simple dips…including the really yummy Tuscan Cheese Ball. If you haven’t tasted this before, you’re missing out.
Okay, I’m officially hungry now.
And I love that little man catching waves. English can be a very confusing language, especially for the literal-minded among us.
I LOVE that picture. The water looks so divine!
And now I’m totally craving picnic food…
