Hi Ho Hi Ho, it’s off to school they go
Summer’s come and gone, the long awaited day is here but for my two boys, I should say the “dreaded” day is here. Tyler is off to first grade (Waaaahhh! That’s me crying tears of joy and sadness) and Trent is off to Pre-School, three days a week for three hours per day Monday-Thursday. I know what you’re thinking right about now “what am I and Sophia will be doing with three whole hours to ourselves?” Let us get back to you on that one, we’re still discussing.
Being a planner that I think I am, there were lists after lists of what needed to be done the day/night before school starts. The boys got their hair shaved cut…check. Lunchbox was packed…check. The boys’ clothes were put out the night before…check. Get up early to get ready…check. Be at the bus stop at 8:15…check. Missed the bus…no friggin’ check!!
Sooooo, hectic call from crazy Mama of three on the first day of school “WE MISSED THE BUS!! EVERYBODY IN THE CAR!! GOGOGOGOGO!!!”
Did you know that there is a “queue” to drop off the kids at school? There I was following the “queue” and thought to myself “this is easy, just open the slider door, Tyler jumps down and off we go, following the queue.” But NOOOO!! I should have known that this is no ordinary day.
The damn sliding door closed 3/4 of the way in (ARRRGGG!!!), and there were thousands of anxious parents waiting in the “queue” to drop off their precious rugrats, and what did I do…I held up the “queue” people!! So I had to jump out of the van, go around to the other side and closed the damn slider shut by hand under the glare of one very impatient teacher/traffic monitor muttering “it’s not friggin’ automatic?!!!” I replied sheepishly “it got stuck!” Did I say this already, let me say it again…DAMN loser’s cruiser!!
I wanted to just crawl back into my loser’s cruiser and get the heck out of there in a jiffy. But no people, like I said before “this is no ordinary day.” We were at the “STOP” sign and another crazy mama went to take a left turn into the school (probably missed the bus as well) and almost hit an oncoming car, which had right of way. And where were we? We were inches away from being involved in this three-car accident, as an innocent bystander people!!! I could smell the burnt tires from the other car breaking so hard trying not to hit the crazy mama.
ALRIGHTY THEN!! My heart was in my throat and the curds of my Lactaid milk which I managed to gulp down this morning was about to be regurgitated all over the front seat of my loser’s cruiser. Nice huh?!
That was not on the check list by the way, getting killed…no check!
One more kid off to school at noon, but this time I’m parking the loser’s cruiser and we’re walking into the school together without dealing with “queues”, angry parents and impatient teacher/traffic monitor!!
Here’s a picture I managed to take while waiting for the bus that we missed.

Aww… look how cute they are and of course, could anything else go wrong on 1st day of school?? Isn’t that always the way?
And also, Happy Belated Birthday Tyler!!!
So you were waiting for a bus that had already come and gone? That’s sad and funny at the same time. Oh well - sh*t happens!
Jeff~ I’m glad I can offer some amusements for you this lovely day. AND the day just gets “worser and worser” by the minute and it’s not even 11 friggin’ AM. I did a load of laundry this morning since Trent had a little bed wetting incident. I just took it out and there was chocolate melted all over the friggin’ dryer!! WHERE THE *&%#($)# did that chocolate come from? I don’t &^#%$(@ know since we are not junk food addicts. Did a tooth fairy leave the chocolate in lieu of coins?!!
As they say, when it rains…it pours. What else can happen next? I shudder to think.
LO-effin-L!!!
Your bad day is an ispiration to us that you can be mortally shamed by circumstances all day long and still find time to come back for more!
Here’s hoping the afternoon swings the other way for you.
Oh - that’s awful. It stresses me out just to think about that, let alone if I was you! But oh my - they are so CUTE! Adorable.
held up the “queue?
Oh no! Now your kids will always have “that mommy”
I’m sorry I can’t help but laugh a little– because I’ve been there too. Things will straighten out soon– or get worse. you never really do know
Ohh, we missed the bus the other day, too. And then we tried to FOLLOW the bus and get her ON the bus at a different stop, but cars and people kept getting in my way or the bus wouldn’t wait for me to catch up… until I finally said, “WHAT AM I DOING??? WHY am I not driving you to school??”
Hang in there, Sweetie.
What spiffy little guys you got there.
Those are some handsome men you’re growing up.
Hope your day improved. I had a crappy day too, just cranky kids…and maybe cranky mommy too.
They are so adorable! Congrats on making it through the first week of school.
