Trick or Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat

October 31st, 2006

Thanks to all you wonderful folks for your words of comfort and recommendations on yesterday's post. Who needs parenting manuals when you have first-hand experience parents, like yourselves. Catherine was kind enough to send me link and link to what might be bothering Sophia. As a token of my thanks, a bagful of Halloween candies for everyone!!

Sophia only woke up once last night, I went in to comfort her, held her close to my chest with her favorite blankie and put her back to sleep and she's been sleeping since 3AM this morning. I'm hoping this trend will continue.

I’m so tired I could cry

October 30th, 2006

For the past few nights, Sophia has been waking up in the middle of the night screaming. I don't mean just a little cry, it's one of those piercing bloody murder screams.

I'd go in to check on her, change her diaper, give her milk thinking that would ease whatever's bothering her (she's not teething, or sick) and she would go back to sleep. But exactly half an hour later, the screaming starts again and I'd go in to check on her again and try putting her back to sleep...but she wouldn't.

What’s in a name

October 25th, 2006

My siblings and I all had two names (except for the youngest brother) when we were born, one was formal Vietnamese names (for school) and the other was either American/French names for home. I haven't had the foggiest idea as to the reason why my parents decided to do that. It's not enough that they had five kids to deal with on a daily basis, but trying to remember which names to call us sometimes can lead to "hey, hey...you!"

Good eats

October 22nd, 2006

Edited to add:  My sister told me today that she read this post and that the picture of my wonton soup looked pretty good.  It just dawned on me that everyone must have thought the same thing.  Uh oh, blogging faux pas #1, not giving credit where credit is due.  The picture of the wonton soup was taken from here.  Thanks everyone for "enjoying" our food with us.
Do you "live to eat" or "eat to live"?

Being "the chef" in the family, my motto would be I "live to eat".

My three circus monkeys

October 18th, 2006

My hubbie, the entertainer in the family, has turned our three children into his own sci-fi circus monkeys. He's managed to turn our sons, Tyler (6) and Trent (3), into his own Jedi fighters. Trent goes around the house flashing his light saber humming to the theme song of Star Wars, this is the kid who can't even recite the alphabets yet.

As for our 19 month-old Sophia? She has learned the best trick (from the biggest circus monkey of all...her Dad) that her mother, a grown woman, cannot do no matter how hard she's tried. And Sophia knows that too because she taunts me folks. She goes around the house doing this (nice runny nose too).
