Love of broccolis

Love is seeing your 20 month-old Sophia enjoying broccolis like it was a sweet treat. She would chomp on the top first and then work her way down towards the stem, and in one whoosh…the whole broccoli is gone. And out comes her little hand asking for more.

How can a mother not like that?! Don’t believe me? Check out how she has her mouthful with that wonderfully-good-for-you green stuff.

I guess I can take credit for her love of broccolis. I can eat a bowlful of steamed broccolis just by itself over a bowlful of chocolates any day. Yes, you read that right…CHOCOLATES. I hear the gasping out there in the blogosphere. I’m freakish that way, didn’t you know that already?!

What good stuff do your children like that you’re just scratching your head saying “WHHHAT?!”

Check out here and here for more Love Thursday posts.

When I was younger, I never ate my vegetables. I was lucky that my Mom never forced me. She felt I would learn to eat them on my own when I got older. And she was right!

Wowie! My little guy won’t touch anything green, be thankful. She’s SO cute!! He does eat raw onions though, just like his mama ;). He also loves spicy things, including hot salsa ;).

My guys LOVE broccoli too! It’s the weirdest thing to see them clap and get excited when we have broccoli. My daughter despises it along with every other vegetable though.

Now chosing broccoli over chocolate……..that’s just NOT right.

Too CUTE!

Q ate half the broccoli served to the entire family at Thanksgiving dinner last week. And if you like veggies, I have a pic here that you might like:

I cannot STAND the green trees. But good mother that I am, I still serve them to the munchkins. And they love them too. Go figure. At least it’s better for them than the chocolate! Happy Love Thursday!

I’ve always liked broccoli and never agreed with all the broccoli-bashing (with butter and salt - YUM!). Daddy Bush really caused quite a stir with this quote:

“”I am rebelling against broccoli, and I refuse to give ground. I do not like broccoli, and I haven’t liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it. And I’m President of the United States, and I’m not going to eat any more broccoli.”

Cauliflower, on the other hand, is a completely different issue.

OK, please tell me how you got her to eat brocolli? I love brocolii, too and hubby and I eat a bunch of veggies, but I 5 year old acts like we are feeding him poison anytime we put anything green on his plate. I kind of feel the same way about brussel sprouts as you do about broccoli. But…. between brussel sprouts and chocolate, I would take chocolate!

Mamaduck~ RAW ONION? Even I can’t even eat raw onion without getting teary eyed.

Lady M~Those plush veggies are too cute! Thanks for the link!

Dennis~I tried brussel sprouts once, and DID NOT LIKE it (maybe the way I cooked it) so I haven’t introduce it to the kids yet. Maybe I’ll order it in the restaurant one time just to see how they taste professionally prepared.

Jeff~Yeah, I remember that quote from Bush Senior. It did cause quite a stir alright. Remember Reagan’s love for Jelly beans? Now, that’s my man! And I heard that mashed cauliflower is pretty good, you might want to give it a try?

Yum, broccoli, one of the few vegetables I like. But I don’t know if I’d say it’s better than chocolate.

My kids love frozen peas. Still frozen. If they thaw, they aren’t as good.

And carrots. Cooked though.

I still don’t understand how…

You must be dipping the green in sugar, right?

What a sweetie! My kids like broccoli too. They also love carrots and sweet peas, but that makes sense because they’re sweet.

What blows me away is how they eat SOUR CANDY. They offer me one, and I’m puckered, eyes watering, for ten minutes.

Kids have different tastebuds than adults. Seriously!

Mine like brocolli. Vi likes it with cheese on it. They also like carrots and peas. I made them zucchini last night, and Vi about had a fit, did not like it at all. She’s been kinda picky lately, but she gets tummy aches, and has to watch what she eats.

My son likes broccoli too, however he won’t eat it raw. He loves corn too. He could eat corn every day, especially corn on the cob.
Good for her !!!

My mom convinced us that broccoli (which at the farmer’s mkt they spell brocli, an innovation I would like to adopt because I can never remember how many c’s and how many l’s there are) was “trees” so I grew up loving to eat “trees.”

Here is my patented “turn anyone into a brussels sprout lover” easy recipe - lay a sprout on its side and cut it into the finest shreds you can, starting at the end away from the root. Throw root away. Repeat until you have a bunch of shreds. Or you can do this in the food processor, cutting off the root end in advance.

Heat a bit of butter in a frying pan. Toss in the shreds, squeeze a little fresh lemon juice over them and slam the lid on for a few minutes. You can either eat them as soon as they are tender enough for you, or you can sprinkle them with grated parmesan and put the lid back on for a couple minutes.

People will probably not recognize what they are, even. Don’t tell and they may actually eat them!

In my house, broccoli is reffered to as “baby tree food” and my girls LOVE it!! They eat it cooked, or raw (dipped in ranch, of course)! We do chopped veggies like that for after school snacks.

That’s it! Tomorrow I’m giving my daughter a whole piece of broccoli and I’m going to wait to see what happens. Up until now she won’t look pieces of that green stuff. Maybe if she has the whole piece…

Are you sure you didn’t dip it in maple syrup first?
