Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays

November 12th, 2006

This post is my version of John Stossel’s “Give Me A Break” segment on ABC’s 20/20. If you’ve lived under a rock somewhere last year, I’m sure this is new to you. But if you are connected via the t.v, the newspapers, or the internet…this has been the talk of last year’s holiday season.

Retailers and schools alike were afraid of insulting certain group of people, so they changed their “Merry Christmas” greeting to “Happy Holidays”. And to go one stupid step further, the Department of Parks and Recreation of Boston changed the public Christmas tree to a “Holiday” tree last year after many local outcries, even from the city mayor.

The Hungry Detective, I want your job

November 8th, 2006

If you’ve been visiting this humble blog thus far, you’d know that I’m pretty much a couch potato, I love me some tv after the kids are off to dreamland, that’s when my clicker and I have our date.

After catching up on my taped shows on the DVR and there’s nothing else to watch, I’d turn to my other favorite channel…Food Network. There’s a new show calls The Hungry Detective at 10:30 EST and let me tell ya, I want his job.

Lend me your parenting manual

November 5th, 2006

Boy, this parenting gig is hard work, hard with a capital H folks! Even with three pregnancies, and three childbirths, they don’t even come close to the day-to-day parenting challenges. Now that our Tyler is in the first grade, every day is something different.

The other day, Tyler mentioned that while waiting for the school bus home, a few boys were laughing at him. I asked him what gave him the idea that they were laughing at him. He shrugged his shoulders as if he didn’t know. I pressed on and he told me that the boys had on Halloween teeth and they were laughing. I explained to Tyler that they were probably just showing off their funny teeth. And then he agreed. But just the thought that someone might be laughing or poking fun of my son just gives me a little pain on my left side, that would be my heart.
