All we want for Christmas

poison.jpg

Dear Santa,

I hope this letter finds you and Mrs. Claus well. The elves and you are probably very busy ramping up for the upcoming Christmas season. I assure you that my children have been relatively good this year, except for a few meltdowns here and there. But even I have meltdowns too, I just blame it on the upcoming birthday of reaching…ahem, I don’t need to tell you my age, I’m sure you already know. Any magic potion you have in your bag of goodies to turn back the clock to say when I was 25 perhaps? No? Alright, thought I ask.

Oh, but this letter is not about me. I’m writing to let you know that you can save all the toys for the many less fortunate children in the world. My children don’t ask for much at all. Are you ready? This is what they’d like for Christmas.

Yup, cans as in canned goods. They are very creative in using these heavy cylindrical objects to make building blocks, or build castles, and my little girl’s favorite thing to do? Peel off the labels on the cans (try to guess what’s in the can without a label is a game in itself).

What’s that you say? Oh no no, we don’t live on processed canned goods. Well, does corn in a can count? We can’t have enough of corn in the cans at our house. The other cans are coconut milks for curry dishes and some are mushrooms that I need in Asian cooking. But thanks for the concern though.

Even the hubbie was in the holiday spirit this year (actually a little nudge from the nagging persuasive wife helps too). Here he was contemplating if he should climb that tall ladder on sloppy unstable mulch to put on the last of the Christmas lights.

What a guy huh?! If you have any leftover plasma TVs, please send one his way…he’d really appreciate it. Our TV is on its last leg and he’s too cheap frugal to buy another one. Something about college funds for the kids, blah blah blah.

And here’s his handy work. With all the flashing lights…you won’t miss our house in case Rudolph called in sick or your GPS system doesn’t work or something.

Take care and be careful climbing down the chimneys. Merry Christmas to you and your whole crew.

The Waya clan.

Ps: Here’s a head scratcher for you folks in the blogosphere. Does this give you a sense of comfort with this warning posted on every single Christmas lights box?

Canned goods eh? I never thought to use them as toys before…if we run out of things to do this week…the cans are coming out.

Sorry Heather, I can’t resist…

If I were you I’d keep your cans where they are. We already know how you got your blog name in the first place.

Your babies are afriggindorable! I’m laughing my butt off at that cartoon!! At almost 4 years old, my girls still love to play with cans, and pots and pans, and silverware…etc… I’m sooooooo glad to see that we put ourselves in danger whilst putting up our lights! *dripping sarcasm*

When my kids were younger and people asked what to buy them for Birthdays/Holidays.. I would simply tell them “EMPTY BOXES”. lol That’s what seemed to get the most play. The toys IN the boxes got set aside and they had a great time with the boxes!

Love the cartoon.

I’m sure Santa understands all the meltdown. I bet he has meltdowns when the “ber” months start.

Wow! Your house is so beautiful. I love the wrap around porch, and the lights look fantastic.

As for cans– yep they are at the top of my 3 and 4 year olds lists. They can clear out a pantry faster than I can unload my groceries. Why do i bother with the stuff from Toys R Us !

TOO funny! Your husband did a GREAT job. Sometimes a little “nudging” doesn’t hurt.

Your kids are very resourceful.

That cartoon was hysterical! I also loved the pictures of your kids and the cans. My mom took one of me playing with cans when I was about that age, too. Oh, here from Sam’s!

I won’t dare show you a picture of my cupboards… I have enough cans of food in them to feed an army of preschoolers for three months. Besides, I don’t even see cans when I look at your pictures… I’m too busy noticing how clean your floor is, woman!

Your house looks beautiful, by the way!

Wow- that warning is really scary. I hope you didn’t use the bathroom right away. Maybe you should wash your hands with bleach. Or acid.
