Happy 4th Birthday Trent!
Our middle child, Trent, is four today!

“My siblings and me!”

Most of the times, I don’t remember what I had for lunch but when it comes to my children’s arrival on Earth…I can replay it in my mind as if I’m rewinding my favorite shows on the DVR to watch. (I’m sure you parents can relate!)
I’d like to replay it for you, well actually for me too in case I lose more marbles as I get older and adding more children to my clan. As always, skip to the gratuitous pictures below if this post is too long.
My contractions started on 1/27 during the night, left messages for the doctor-on-call to call back, but he/she never did. And since I wasn’t in that much pain, I decided to go back to sleep.
Tuesday morning (1/28/03), after rushing my Mom off the phone (I didn’t tell her in case it was false alarm, that would worry her more) since my contractions started a bit stronger and then my water broke. Luckily, I told my hubbie to stay home from work that day in case and it’s a good thing.
- 9:25AM…Called the OB’s office and was instructed to haul @ss to the hospital since the contractions were coming 5 minutes apart.
- 9:30AM…Called my brother to ask if he can babysit Tyler since he works nearby.
- 9:35AM…Took a shower to freshen up (got to smell good for the doctor at least), but didn’t have time to put on make-up since the pain was unbearable. I know, like I said got to look good for the doctor. I’m vain like that.
- 9:45AM…Brother showed up and off to the hospital we went.
- 10:00AM…The hubbie parked the car in front of the Emergency entrance, we rushed to the Labor/Delivering floor. Nurse checked my cervix and said I’m fully dilated and no time for an epidural. DOUBLE FREAKIN’ YIKES!!!
- My doctor wasn’t even on-call, just there to pick up his new beeper, came in to say hi checked my cervix and basically rushed to put on his scrubs. So I guess he was on-call after all.
- 10:22AM…Trent arrived with ten fingers, ten toes and a healthy lungs, so we thought.
- After cutting the umbilical cord, hubbie went out to park the car, and get the overnight bag. He was back just in time to take this picture of Trent.

Since Trent came out so fast, there was no “transition period” (that’s what we were told by the doctors) so his lungs were filled with liquid. He was in the “Special Care Unit” for 4 days. That was the hardest thing to have to leave your newborn in the hospital while I was being discharged. We came in every night to see him and I nursed him then. Thanks to all the wonderful nurses in the SCU, we were able to bring Trent home healthy by the 5th day.
Tyler fell in love with his new brother and play buddy instantly. There was no jealousy from him at all. He loves his brother tremendously and was/is very protective of him.

I thought I was looking at myself in the mirror each time I stare at Trent. Not necessary the features per se, but he is the male version of me in terms of personality. He’s as stubborn as me, to a fault. He loves to play hard to get, and I’m a pro at it. He can be absolutely adorable, independent, and playful one minute and the next…he can have a 20 minute meltdown saying things like “I don’t like you” or “I don’t love you”. We dubbed him our Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
“Whatcha looking at punk?!”

“My Legos creation.”

“Hmm, will the Red Sox win the World Series again this year?”

“Don’t touch my Transformer dude!”

I have to admit that I’m a bit sad to witness my children growing up too fast. I realize it’s inevitable that I have to let go at one point, but my hubbie might have to pry my fingers from them though. I do look forward to see how Trent will change, personality wise, being one year older.
So to our adorable independent apple of my eyes, I wish you a healthy and happy life filled with infinite love and good fortune.

Happy Birthday Trent!
My Maggie was born with lung problems too– and then jaundice, so we had to stay in the hospital with her while she was in teh NICU (fortuantely the staff let us)

What a handsome boy! Happy Birthday Trent!
What a cute, chubby ball of sweet he was. Happy Birthday to him.
You have such gorgeous children. I especially like the pictures of the three of them with the cake, and of course the sunglasses.
Wow! That’s a quick delivery. Apparently he wanted into this world as quickly as possible so he could start spreading his cuteness.
Happy Birthday Trent!
