Miami Ink

Do you have a nightly routine? I don’t mean sitting-on-the-throne kind of routine. I mean, what do you do to unwind nightly after the kids are in dream land. This applies to you DINKS, or single folks as well.

Me? I’m a pure couch potato and a “clicker”. My hubbie hates watching TV with me because I surf the TV like a typical man (isn’t that what you men are known for?), I don’t like watching commercials (who does?!) and have a very eclectic taste in the shows I watch nightly.

With one TV in the house, I always get first dip because most of the time he’s on his laptop anyway. And he doesn’t want to hear “well, then we need another TV.” So the best solution to avoid that is to give me control of the clicker.

I can watch CSI one minute, Heroes the next, News talk shows to Gilmore Girls, or all of the Law & Order shows, and don’t forget the Food Network, and Discovery channel to Sci-Fi (this is only when Battlestar Galactica was on, did I tell you my hubbie is a Sci-Fi freak).

So when there are repeats on TV, I like to turn to my TLC channel. There are usually some interesting shows on TLC, and one of them is Miami Ink.

Have you seen this show? It’s about a tattoo parlor in Miami featuring five very talented tattoo artists. My favorite artist is Kat. I’m just amazed at how she can take a picture and bring it to “life” on someone’s flesh. Check out her work above. I know what you’re thinking, who wants to watch a show about tattooing. Well, it’s more than getting a tattoo, lemme tell you.

The tattoo parlor featured all walks of life with some amazing stories. They could be your next store neighbor, your kids’ teachers, mothers, models, cancer survivors, just to name a few. Not like the typical tough biker dudes as I’ve imagined in the past.

I’ve been dropping hints to the hubbie that I’d love to get a tattoo for my 40th b-day. I know, me. Soon-to-be mother of four and conservative as they come, yes me. My hubbie thinks I’m all talk but I’m really thinking about it. Now, deciding on what to get and where to have it is another story. I’d love to have it done by Kat though. Did I mention that she’s just awesome!

I’m a sucker for talented artists since I can’t draw a stick figure to save my life.

How about you? Do you have any tattoos? If not, would you consider it?

I have been thinking and talking about getting one for a couple of years now. I just haven’t found the right image, nor have I decided where I want to put said image. But I’m not concerned with the pain or the permanency — perhaps motherhood prepared me for ink?!

Allan’s a sci fi freak, too. I can’t BELIEVE how he got me hooked on Battlestar Galactica, because I’m so not into that sort of thing.

Anyhow, no tattoos here. Although, like you, I think I’d consider one if the artist was fabuloso. Who cares if we’re the mother of four little ones and pushing the big 4-0, right?? Right??

Tattoo eh? So your talking about the real thing and not just about the little guy on Fantasy Island right?

I don’t have any. The closest I’ve ever come to any is those temp ones you get out of vending machines at the market (yes, I buy that junk, and for me!)

My mother’s side of the family is addicted though. They all have like 50 each (or it seems) and look like cannibals.

I don’t have any and I’m too chicken to get one. Even if I could handle the pain, I don’t think I’d want one.

No tattoos. But I do have 5 piercings…

Something about the permanency of them that makes me nervous. I’m too fickle for a tattoo. Stuff I like today I usually am sick of next week - so I wouldn’t want to get stuck with something (I might get sick of) for the rest of my life.

Just my perspective - but hey, you asked!

I, do, have a tattoo. I got it about 6 years ago. It’s on my lower back. My hubbie didn’t approve but didn’t stop me. I’ve been wanting to get another 1 ever since but now my hubbie is saying “no”. I think last time he didn’t think I’d actually go through with this. I even found what I would like to have on my next tattoo & where (shoulder blade).
As to nightly routine, I, too, love my boob tube, however, my hubbie is the clicker. During commercials I just do my Sudoku puzzles, he does all the flicking.

No tats for me. I’m with Jeff, actually…with my luck I’d get one and then hate whatever it was in a month or two.

Plus I’m a chicken.

Um. Not to encourage the tattoo but if she decides to get one. I am glad there are new products like this one:

http://www.fadetattoo.com/

I really don’t mind - I just imagine a strange future conversation with my teenage kids:

Future Teenager: “I want a tattoo”.

Me: “No”.

Future Teenager: “I want one - why can’t I”.

ME: “Again no and because I am your dad and you live in … [insert usual parent talk]”.

Future Teenager: “But mom has one … ”

Me: [Insert more usual parent talk] but it is useless at this point.

hahahhaha. Loved Mr Waya’s comment. ;) I don’t have a tat nor would I ever get one. My BIL has 5 and my kids think they are sooooo cool. I think he will look ridiculous when he’s 65 with a faded sun tat on his arm, but that’s just me…..

And I like to watch TV to unwind too. If there isn’t anything on, we don’t have cable so lots of times there isn’t anything on, I read blogs or read *gasp* a book. Nothing makes you feel relaxed like watching some good TV though.

My dear Mr. Waya~I hope you’ll be prepared when YOU have to talk to the kids about the “birds and the bees” as well.

40th birthday? You seem much too young for 40. I’m not a fan of tattoos, but you should be able to treat yourself big on a day like that.

My nightly routine is much the same as yours … and I’m somewhat ashamed to admit that I’m addicted to reality TV and therefore love Miami Ink! And even though I’ve never been a huge fan of their music, I love, love, love watching Gene Simmons, Family Jewels!

As for tats … nope … not yet!!

Oh, Betty…
I think for your fortieth… You should go on a road trip Miami… (Maybe virtually invite allof us gals down,we do not need a BLogher convention…)and acquire the perfect tattoo to mark the journey….

I think that if you want a tat you should get it. I have 4 now working on going to get #5. I have one on my right ankle, upper and lower back and on the top of my left foot. If you really find one you like and know where you want it done, just go do it, or else you just might chicken out…
