Are you smarter than a 5th Grader

Yes, there is such a show on Fox every Thursday, but I have yet to watch it in fear of confirming the scary truth that I might not be smarter than your 5th Grader.

Why did I say that? Well, every since I became pregnant with this 4th child, my brain cells (whatever small amount that I possess in the first place) were the first to go on hiatus along with my waistline. I can’t even do simple calculations. Oh my gosh, I can see my Dad saying to my Mom right about now that “four years of a good college education down the drain!”

Case in point, I’ve been helping Tyler (my 6 y/o 1st Grader) with his homework after school, and can you believe that I’ve been telling him that 2×0=2?! It didn’t even dawn on me that 2×1 also equals to 2!! D’UH!

Until one day, the hubbie was helping Tyler with his homework and that’s when everyone pretty much decided that Mommy’s better off with some light homework duty…like none!

But really, have you seen the homework that your children have been bringing home? I don’t remember doing a lot of this stuff when I was in 1st Grade. But I do fondly remember what kind of snacks we had every day though, oh those button crackers that melt in your mouth.

Sorry, I digress…I mean, some of the Math problems are pretty tricky for 1st Grader, really! Well, I like to think that my unborn child is sucking all the intelligence from me for himself. I’m down with that thought. I’m all about sharing, but once he goes down the “chute”…I better get some of those smarts back or I might have to get Tyler to tutor me.

Alright, got to go…nap time. This 2nd Grade Brain Quest Tyler left for me to do is giving me a headache!

I’ve watched the show off and on,
I think its rigged - they get the ex-jocks and cheerleader types for adults and the Doogie Houser type kids for the 5th graders (the kind who are smarter than the teachers.)

I have not bothered to watch. That doogie houser kid was smart!

I can’t watch it. Pretty much any show that Jeff Foxworthy hosts would fall under the same category.

It’s a medical fact: those preggers hormones make you spacey (and moody and hungry and tired!)

I watched that show once and got so discouraged at how much I didn’t know. I’m in for a rough time when Girlie Girl starts bringing home school work!

I actually saw it for the first time last week and I can pretty much guarantee you’d pass. They go looking hard for the adults with the largest muscle-to-mind ratio. You know: big bisceps small brains?

At least you have the pregnancy excuse (your brain DOES actually shrink while pregnant you know!). What’s mine??

I haven’t seen this show yet, but it sounds entertaining! We’re mostly just following Dancing with the Stars this season.

The time I watched there was a blonde lady, and I just remember thinking how sad that they are perpetuating the “stupid blonde” stereotype. I know it’s all in fun. But, I don’t think I’ll watch it again. Yes, you definately lose some brain cells with being pregnant, some of mine haven’t come back yet!!!! And, I also think they give young children too much homework, but then you know, we homeschool!

One of the only things that I miss from my pregnancy is being able to use the pregnant=no brain cells excuse. Not that it’s an excuse, per se. But when you’re still using it when your kid is two THEN it’s a poor excuse.

Can’t wait to see how smart your baby will be after sucking your intelligence for the whole 9 months!

:-)

Hope you’re doing great with your pregnancy…love seeing pregnant moms.

I’ve seen the show a couple of times and am sad to say that I was NOT smarter than their (alleged) 5th graders. However, the questions they ask are not typical grade school questions. I’m just saying.

I’ve always referred to this as “Baby-on-the-Brain.” In my experience, most of it goes away once the baby comes. MOST of it anyway. ;0)

I tagged you over at my blog.

Ugh. Okay, first of all, I won’t watch that show either. I have my own kids here to tell me I’m an idiot, I don’t need a TV show to do it too. ;)

And, I think pregnancy really does make a person spacey and ditzy. And then after the baby is born you are so dang tired you can’t think straight and it just makes the problem a whole lot worse in my humble opinion. I remember when my kids were babies I felt like I had a blanket wrapped around my brain. It took THAT long for thoughts to get in and out. OY. Are you gonna post a picture of yourself? I would love to see one of you!
