A party fit for a (teethless) prince

We have been planning a 30-day celebration party (a Vietnamese tradition) for Parker the first day he was born, which took place this past Saturday.

If you’re a regular reader on this blog, you’d know that we I love/live to eat. And since we’ve had many parties in the past for such aforementioned occasion, we are now “pros” at party planning for over 50 people. When I say “we”, I meant my “posse” of my super Mom and my two awesome sisters.

Here’s a cornucopian of dishes of which the majority were homemade and some were ordered. Do you recognize any of the dishes? Commence drooling…now!

If you’re familiar with Asian food cooking, there’s a lot of prep work for just one dish. But it’s a good thing that we can prepare way ahead of time, like the egg rolls. Us girls, yes…it’s always us girls and not the boys, wrapped about 250 egg rolls three weeks in advance, freeze them and then fry them (frozen) the day off the party. We pretty much have to pick straws (except Mom) to see who’s the unlucky one doing the frying. ;-) Thanks sis!

This was done by yours truly. Too bad there wasn’t enough time to carve a golden pig on the side of watermelon, something like this. Alright, I’m kidding, I’m no Edward Scissorhands.

Thanks to my aunt who made this cake for Parker, her first time baking cakes for special occasions and it turned out deliciously beautiful.

Thanks to our neighbor for lending us this big contraption, we had water entertainment for the kids. Not sure why none of the adults brought their bikinis or Speedos though.

And here is the man of the hour (with proud Mama who’s been calling him “HP” as in “Handsome Parker” for short and do you blame me?!), who only wakes up every three hours to be fed. All the guests who saw Parker for the first time commented that he looks more like a three-month old baby and they couldn’t believe he was a ten pounder at birth.

The shindig was a success, everyone enjoyed themselves, the weather was beautiful, the kids played nicely together, the food was delish, we couldn’t have planned it better. I’m a bit sad that this will be my last “30 day celebration” but to my Mom’s relief that there won’t be a 5th baby…maybe, kidding Mom. Mom? Mom? Does anyone have smelling salt or something? Can you pick her off of the floor please?!

Holy cow that food looks incr-EDIBLE! I keep clicking on the picture so I can make it larger and increase the flow rate of my drool, but it won’t do anything. Oh well - I guess I shouldn’t be looking at delicious food when I’m starving right now anyway!

And that pic of you two is awesome! Funny how it’s looking like you’re struggling to hold up Parker there. :-)

I see a cute baby on one arm, and no chicken wing in the other…

I don’t even know what to say…
