A dual celebration

One of the best part of being married to someone outside your ethnic group is that you’re introduced to that person’s culture. This weekend, we went to NJ to celebrate Parker’s 100 days with his Korean paternal grandparents.

Although Parker’s not exactly 100 days old yet but we celebrated it anyway since the kids are going back to school and making a trip to NJ would be harder in a few weeks. We did have his Vietnamese 30-day celebration already. Any excuse for a get together with friends and eat is fine with me.

If you ask me the meanings behind the 100 and 30-day celebrations, I can only refer you to the internet since I have no idea myself. If you happen to find the info, let me know.

Here is my handsome prince staring at the rice cake with Korean writing on it (black peas are used) to denote the 100 day celebration. May you have a long, happy and fulfilling life my adorable Parker!

My in-laws crack me up, they said Parker is number one out of the four kids. Psst don’t tell the other kids but in a way they are right. Parker has been such a good baby, so easy (oh, don’t jinx me now!), and seems like a happy-go-lucky kid so far. I even joked to my family that he’s so cute that I’d love to have another baby, then the other three children would squabble and that brings me right out of my reverie. ;-)

Thanks to all my wonderful friends who sent gifts to Parker. You folks are very generous and thoughtful even though you haven’t met Parker yet. He will definitely enjoy the many cute outfits you bought him! And a special “mahalo nui loa” to my blogging friend Kailani (I hope to meet you some day when we have the chance to visit Hawaii, our favorite vacation spot!), who sent this beautiful monogrammed cloth and a cute bib! Kailani is a busy Mom of two adorable girls, a flight attendant and a very creative blogger (I hope you don’t mind me using this term) whom I enjoy reading tremendously!

We also celebrated Tyler’s early birthday with his NJ cousins on Saturday. I can’t believe he’s turning seven today! He’s grown into a caring, sensitive, smart, artistic and funny boy.

Here he was doing the “Nixon” wave!

May you have good health, happiness and success in whatever you set your mind to Tyler!

Oh, he’s so big now. I haven’t visited for such a long time since that last time I saw your baby, he was just a newborn.

He is so handsome!

And Tyler is so cute!

It looks like a fabulous celebration - and how fortunate your kids are to have multiple cultural traditions to shape them!!
