Working overtime

This is out of the norm for me, posting on a Saturday. Saturdays or the weekends are reserved for family days, doing things outside, going into Boston, eating out, Mommy gets a few hours to do errands (BY HERSELF!) or simply hanging out together…family thing. But this is a different Saturday for me, I’ve been single parenting since last Sunday until next Thursday (yes, that’s 12 looong days!) because the hubbie is jetsetting around the world on a business trip in Japan and Australia (nice huh?!).

Yes, yes, I know that business travel is not as glamorous as it sounds, long flights, jet lag, sleeping in a strange place, eating weird food, blah blah blah. But this is not about him, it’s about me here. I packed enough medicines for him that he can actually open a pharmacy so he’s all set, ok. I’m not a heartless wife here.

Can we get back to me now? Where were we…oh yeah, although I have my daily routine down pact, but with 4 kids under the age of 7, they tend to put a monkey wrench into my routines without prior notices, or memos. And they sure know how to PUSH.MY.BUTTONS, making feel like an @ss after having to nag and nag and finally resort to yelling and more yelling. I hate that!

I don’t know how you folks with 4+ kids (single moms/dads/working moms/dads…did I leave anyone out?) do it. I mean I do have a ton of patience but when you’re operating solo on a 4-5 hours of sleep/night, you are pretty much cranky stretched farther than a taffy candy. Have you seen that show “Jon & Kate + 8″? My jaw hits the floor every time I watch that show.

I’m totally bowing down to Kate, who is a mother of twin girls (6 y/o) and 2 y/o sextuplets (that’s 3 boys and 3 girls folks!). She never seems to lose her cool, and her house is always spotless even with 8 kids around. She even admitted being a bit of a “control freak and having OCD”. On the last episode, she was potty training her 3 girls and interviewing/hiring a cleaning lady, who was fired after one day of cleaning. She didn’t clean one corner and there was dust still under some books in a cabinet. And she calls herself a cleaning lady, well!

I guess I should just suck it up after watching Kate handles her hectic life with ease. You are my hero Kate! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to alphabetize my can goods, put plastic on the windows for winterizing, chop woods for the fire place after cleaning out the chimney, paint the nursery and sew some winter clothes for the kids after I make a nine-course meal for dinner.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To my dear hubbie, just so you know…you might have to sleep in the other room when you get back. Parker took over your spot and he loves it much better than his crib (something about sleeping next to Mommy and being fed lying down). As much as I love to be spooned and stuff, but I’m rather fond of his baby’s breath and kissable cheeks than the morning breath I’m used to. I might change my mind if you bring home some goodies overseas, maybe a tea set in Japan or something. ;-)
Ya know, you might want to think about just how much ol Parkster is liking the whole sleeping with mom thing. Because once hubster gets home… well I’m just saying. I hope your bed is big enough for 3! :-)
My daughter takes over my husband’s spot when he’s on business trips too. I actually kind of like it too…but don’t tell Craig!
Did I miss something? I mean there was not one mention of KFC anywhere?!?
However, you do know that once in, the imps will never leave the ‘marital bed’.
I think it’s all for the cameras. I’m sure she’s not that together in private. You’re doing a great job! I can barely handle my two and you’ve got 4!
I’ve often wondered how single parents do it too. My hubby went away for a weekend (yes, that’s 3 days & 2 nights) and I had enough with only 2 kids! lol!
Good for you for managing!
As to Kate, ummmm…. i wouldn’t believe she has time to clean with that many children around her. I’m sure they have some help behind the scenes, lol
