Take me out to the ball game
Before I begin my post, I’d like to send my thoughts and prayers to the folks in San Diego and surrounding towns who are affected by this fierce and devastating fire. It’s unfathomable to grasp the extend of the devastation until you watch it on TV. The latest news reported more than 500,000 or even as high as 950,000 people have been evacuated and hundreds of homes destroyed. Here’s hoping that Mother Nature will ease her wrath and send some needed rain.

It feels trivial writing about my experience at the World Series last night when thousands are dealing with the devastating inferno in San Diego, I feel like I have to apologize for posting it, but I figure this is Boston history in the making and I was there to witness it. So, please excuse my “insensitivity” if you can call it that and I promise I won’t be writing any more about the Red Sox in the future unless they win the whole shebang! Promise Dennis, scout’s honor!
I was fortunate to be invited to the game by a really nice neighbor whose husband was out of town for a conference and extremely lucky to have such a supporting husband who’s willing to babysit the four kids (after putting in a long day at work) for his wife to enjoy a night’s out. Thanks darling, you’re the best! I don’t care what your friends say about you.
The night was breezy with some occasional sprinkles. It was a mob scene but very orderly if you can picture that. There was police presence every where, even a bomb squad car. We finally made it to our seats after a sardine packed lines at the door. Our seats were directly behind home plate. I was in awe trying to relish the moment with glazed eyes, I pinched myself to make sure it wasn’t a dream.
You see, things like this just doesn’t happen to me. I think I “cashed” in my luck when I married my “dream guy”, blessed with four adorable healthy children, a sister who’s getting her second chance at life, and a very supported family. Who can ask for anything else, right?!
So without further adieu, here are some gratuitous pictures from the game last night, of course with commentaries. You’re quite welcome.
Here was Parker cheering for the Red Sox with the teething ring tucked nicely on his belly by Sophia. Yes, the dude is only 4.5 months old but teething already. We dubbed him our “advance child”! But you would never know he was teething since he hasn’t been fussy AT ALL! Except when Mommy left for the night and he was missing the real “boobs” and couldn’t fall asleep except on Daddy’s chest THE.WHOLE.NIGHT!
We don’t mess around man! Here was our ride..isn’t she beautiful (oh alright, does it count if we parked next to it?) ? I thought it was Kitt from Knight Rider but it’s actually a Lamborghini. What do I know about cars besides my loser’s cruiser and my dream car.
Even one of Boston’s landmark, the Prudential building, got into the spirit.
The Boston Pops performed the Star-Spangled Banner, conducted by John Williams (the genius composer of Star Wars, Superman, E.T., just to name a few.)
That’s my hostess with the backward cap, we had awesome seats! Who cares if she was two rows in front of me. We dubbed her the “super fan” because she was sporting an 8 months belly and who out-walked me all night AND not to mention she has surgeries to perform the next day.
The man of the hour-MVP Josh Beckett
Who’s that goofy girl with ear-to-ear grin in a borrowed cap (there was no way I was shelling out $45 for a baseball cap with “2007 World Series” written on it! I’ll keep the stub as souvenir thankyouverymuch! Btw, some crazy dude had a sign that said “will pay $20 for the stub!”), minted Red Sox shirt from Walmart, husband’s rain gear (who’s stylin’ now!), and a bag big enough for a camera, bottle of water and some snacks (uh, $3 for an 8 ounce water where I can get 24 bottles for $4.99). Call me frugal not cheap, the least I can do is buy my hostess her snacks, drinks and paid for parking, even at highway-robbery prices.
A picture of the scoreboard as proof that I’ve lasted that long (MUST.OUTLAST.THE.PREGO.LADY!). It was already midnight when we left but the game was not over yet. With 4 hours of sleep, I’m functioning on the adrenaline high.
Just in case you didn’t believe me, the proof is printed on the grass.
Sorry, that was photo-op overload but couldn’t help myself. There were many Kodak moments that I had to refrain from including in this post. Aren’t you lucky! You’re welcome!
