You know you’re in the boonies when…

your backyard is conversation land and Bambi visits whenever he wants

and he’s joined by a family of turkeys, unaware that Thanksgiving is around the corner. Even Tyler advised them to “go away turkeys, Thanksgiving is not here yet!”

This one is so bold that he’s (I’m assuming it’s a he) sneaking around by the side of our garage. Somebody should give him a head’s up that it’s not too wise to be roaming around in day light this time of year. You think?

Bambi’s mommy is alive and well, wandering in the neighbor’s front lawn as if it were her own turf.

Aren’t you city dwellers glad I’m sharing this National Geographic moment with you? You’re welcome!

While we’re on the subject of turkey, we’re hosting this year since the in-laws are coming and might as well “kill two birds with one stone” (pardon the pun) of getting together with my parents and siblings as well.

I’m debating if we should have turkey or not, we’re not fans of turkeys even though I brined the turkey one year (Alton Brown’s recipe) and it turned out very moist and delish! But it’s a lot of work and I’m a bit lazy busy with the four kids and any short cuts I can take is fine by me this year.

So it might be letting the “fingers do the dialing” this year. I’m sure your local grocer has this deal of for only $59.99 you get a turkey with all the fixings for 8-10 people, even your choice of a pie. All you’d need to do the day of is to reheat for two hours. Now that’s my kind of cooking!

In addition to the turkey dinner, we’ll have some Vietnamese/Korean dishes as well. My father-in-law has to have kimchi with everything (and my MIL makes the best kimchi!). It doesn’t matter which restaurants we take him to, his comment would be “kimchi would be good with this” and it could be Italian, American food, seafood or ice cream. If he had his way, I think he’d would stash it in his pocket in a “kimchi flask” and whip it out on demand.

How about you folks? What’s on your menu and what’s your Thanksgiving tradition, if any? Now if you’d excuse me, I need to order that turkey meal before it’s all gone and I might have to chase those wild turkeys in the back yard with the BB gun.*

*Ok I’m jesting, don’t send me any hate mails if you’re an animal activist! Thank you!

We have all those critters in our yard too! A couple of years ago in the Spring I even witnessed turkeys mating. It was interesting, and quick. Let me say I was not impressed with the tom’s stamina.

For Thanksgiving we go to my Aunt’s house. Everyone brings some food to add to the feast, be it buns or potatoes, etc. We all sit around and eat too much and try to stay awake. Good times.

And to think I thought a moose was out of place–you’ve got an entire Thanksgiving feast :)

They’re really pretty though–

Actually, I think that would be pretty cool to see outside my window.

Nice pics!

I like the “dial-a-turkey” concept with your grocery store. I could so see myself ordering one of those. Fortunately my sister cooks the bird so I don’t have to worry about it.

awww, your bambi is so beautiful! We get lots of those wild turkeys around here too. I’m sure a few will end up on the neighbors’ tables…..my moms cooking this year, so I don’t have to do too much deciding, plus I’d be hobbling all over anyway (you’ll have to read about that on my blog…..)Have a good one!

Those are some cool pics! Love the 1st one for sure!
I’m not big on turkey myself either. Luckily my in laws usually do ham & turkey so I go for the ham, lol.
