3 going on 40

It would have been less of a headache and faster to buy a cake at the store and leave it to the professional. But when your adorable little girl asks for a “Hello Kitty” cake, your first thought is to try your hand at baking (that’s the easy part, thanks to Mr. Duncan Hines), the hardest part is decorating and making sure Hello Kitty doesn’t look like a scary drag queen.

Here’s the final result, don’t look too closely as you might find lots of imperfections. Imperfections aside, the look on Sophia’s face when she saw the cake was all worth it! She was smiling from ear to ear (well, not in this picture) and couldn’t wait to eat it (hold the cake, just the frosting please!).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Her mouth was full of food, her two thumbs raised high above her head as she mumbled “you’re the best cooker, mommy!”.
As I finished giving Parker a bath, she stands next to me and hand me the diaper, “lotion mommy?” as if she was a nurse handing the doctor the surgical instruments. Ever since Parker was born, there was not an ounce of jealousy from her except one of nurture and full of affection. This one time, she attempted to take off her shirt to “nurse” him as she sees mommy does it.
“Bless you!”, she’s always the first or the only one to say that when someone sneezes.
“I love your hair mommy!” and “I love you mommy!”, she blurted out in the middle of my reprimanding her for something.
“Boys, clean up!” As she demanded of her two older brothers.
“Let me help!” She bent down (all 33 inches of her) to help Trent button his shirt. Mind you Trent is 5!
“Privacy!” She cried as she sat on the loo doing her business, so I closed the door and let her be until she needed help wiping her bum.
On her way to the kitchen, she saw the trash door opens and went over and closed it. Or anything that’s open, she would gently closes it and goes on with her business.
Holding up an index finger, she pleaded “just one mommy, just one!” Or “I’m hungry” every 10 minutes raiding the pantry. Her appetite reminds me of when I was her age (well, things haven’t changed much!). My mom dubbed me the “disposal”, as I would eat anything leftover that my oldest sister wouldn’t eat…that’s pretty much everything!
“One more book mommy!” that’s after the 4th book before bed and when she wakes up. She’s learning speed reading at a very early age! Her favorite book of all time is “If you give a mouse a cookie” and 3 others by the same author. All has to do with F-O-O-D! See the theme here?
As I picked her up, she held my face in her hands and said “I smell watermelon.” I did have watermelon…10 minutes ago. She has a keen sense of smell, like me. Maybe there’s a ‘coffee smeller’ job for her in the future.
There are disadvantages and advantages of having two older brothers.  She can count up to 20, recite her alphabets, talking and expressing herself like a teenager, but at the same time can say things like “I kill you!”, nice huh?  Yeah, playing guns and fighting like her brothers!  Yet, they can play house together like best of friends.
“I’m no drama queen mommy!” As she pouted and close to tears. Psst, she is a bit of a drama queen like her mommy, as daddy would say. Granted, she doesn’t even know what “drama queen” is, but enough to know that she doesn’t want to have that nickname bestow upon her. So, we secretly call her “DQ” whenever she acts up.
At 3 years of age, Sophia is such a bundle of joy with a laugh that is extremely contagious and full of personalities. As you can see from all the excerpts above (there’s more, but I didn’t want to bore you) Sophia is affectionate, conscientious, extremely helpful, mature beyond her age, just to name a few.
I know I’m very fortunate to have four healthy children. But I’m counting my lucky star for a little girl of my own, someone to share girly girl things with (not very eloquent description here). And having two sisters of my own, I know how important it is to have another female in your camp.
To my adorable Sophia, you have brought us three years of bliss, love, hugs and kisses aplenty. We’re looking forward to many many more exciting years ahead. Just don’t grow up too fast! We love you from here to the moon and back!
Happy B-day Sophia! My you’re starting to sound so much like your mommy more each day. You’re very lucky to have such a talented mommy as a role model. ;-)
Hi Cuz,
It’s scary isn’t it Mimi?! Another mini-me? Thanks for the compliment! Arthur did calculations on his fingers and said “by the time Sophia’s a teenager, mommy will be hitting menopause…so I guess I’ll be traveling more!” It’ll be scary time, for sure! Two strong personalities and so alike. OH BOY!!!
Happy Birthday, Sophia!
You did a great job with that cake. The “guitar” cake I made for Q was pretty messy.
She is completely adorable, and SMART - like her mom ;-)
Nice job on the cake. I would have thought it was a professional template from a bakery. It looks dead on to me.
So please wish Sophia a happy 3rd birthday for me!
