Obama’s going to pay for my gas!
I haven’t touched on politics on this blog before since it’s not something I’m comfortable in discussing with anyone besides my hubbie and family, since it can get pretty ugly. But I can’t help it when my cousin sent this to me this morning:
If Peggy thinks that I’m paying for her gas, and her mortgage…then she is more disillusioned than the millions who’ve elected Obama. But then again, I might not have a choice since the Democrats have taken over all THREE branches of government. Where’s the “check and balance” in that?!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not ungrateful of the aid we received 29 years ago (from the government) when we set our foot on this glorious country after spending 7 horrific days in the open sea, encountering thieves/robbers, and rapists, with nothing on our bodies except the clothes that we left Vietnam with. And spending 9 grueling months in Indonesia having to fend for ourselves (the island we were on was not developed at the time), etc…there are stories that I’d love to post in the future for keepsakes.
We’ve worked hard to get where we are today. My parents, who were upper middle class back in VN, put themselves in English classes, worked at a shrimp company for a few years, having to endure the stench every single day on their bodies while taking public transportation that took them hours to and from work. But they endured, they persevered, they sacrificed, and they advanced. We were proud to be off welfare.
My parents taught us that hard work and an education will get us any where. And they were right. At one point, they were pulling in $25,000 a year total for the both of them while paying for 3 of us in college at one time and having 7 mouths to feed. So what if we didn’t get to go on any spring breaks, take family vacations, drive a nice car, or having nice clothes. We worked on our school breaks to help them out, we were frugal, we didn’t take things for granted and we certainly didn’t expect the government to “pay for our gas”.
My motto is that if this Asian woman immigrant can make it in this country…anybody should be able to. Sure, there always will be obstacles in the road, go around it. Believe you me, I’ve been through racist remarks, gotten into fist fights to defend my brother, but I’ve prevailed. If you lived with a chip on your shoulders…it’ll just drag you down.
So for all the Peggies in this world, don’t expect anybody to pay your gas unless you won the lottery!

You have such an inspiring story! Everyone should know the value of work so well.
Absolutely!
And I think your parents deserve a medal (and a gift card to KFC
You made my morning Tony!! Did you know that our first meal when we landed at LAX was an individual box of 2-piece KFC and a biscuit? I thought that was the strangest meal, where’s the rice? And that was so much food, it could feed a whole village!
And we’ll be waiting for the KFC gift card!!!
That YouTube is getting a lot of attention because it contains a single quote that is representative of everyone who is afraid of our government turning into some kind of socialist regime. It’s probably taken completely out of context but it doesn’t matter, it was the perfect statement to beat the democrats with. I personally don’t understand what everyone is so concerned about. Obama has no more power to turn our country into a socialist government than I do. And the way the term is being used isn’t even accurate anyway - true socialism is not even possible in this day and age. The only thing Obama has said he wants to do is quit giving the wealthy people tax breaks and give their tax breaks to people like me who make waaaaay less than $250k per year. What’s so horrible about that?
Hey Betty… sorry for ranting in your comments. I guess I’ve just heard a little too much about this the last few days and this post just happened to be the one I hit when I decided to vent. Nothing personal… I still love you
WHAT?! Hot shot singer that you are probably raking in the big buck$!!
Coming from a commie country to this capitalist paradise…you bet, I’m afraid of any mentioning of “having to share” my hard earned dollars! I’m all for charity and doing volunteer work but when Uncle Sam tries to help every single person (even ones who don’t need help) and expects me to do the same…I might have a problem with that, not that we’re raking in $250k per year. But where do you think the government will get money for all the “proposed bailouts” in the future?
