A celebration to remember-Wentworth by the Sea

Edited to note: I failed to mention that without the help of my wonderful parents and dedicated sisters/husband, this trip would not have been possible.  Yes, we needed the whole “army” to take care of our four children, I mean with Parker alone (20 months) who gets into everything, you’d need two people on skates just to catch up with him.  A million thanks to my family!!  And I also posted some gratuitous pictures as well if you just want to skip over all the blah blah blah.

A surprised 40th b-day party?  No, he didn’t want any part of it, he said so himself.  Besides, having seen me surprised at my own 40th b-day party in December was more than enough to last him a lifetime.  He’s not one to be in the spotlight, he prefers to be in the background observing things, taking everything in.

Case in point, he didn’t want me to post his pictures so this profile would be it.

His one birthday wish is to have a relaxing “romantic retreat” with his wife sans the four kids.  It’s been two years since we went away together.  Although we absolutely love our children to death, but imagine a whole weekend without having to cook, clean, making sure the kids are fed, bathed, entertained and breaking up fights every few hours, doesn’t that sound heavenly?!

We chose Wentworth by The Sea to mark the occasion since we had a lot of Marriott points to use (with four kids, there’s not much disposable income for any leisure usage), and their website was so enticing, I mean anything “by the sea” can’t be bad, right?  If you put “a little shack by the sea”, I’m sure it’ll still be nice even if it’s in the middle of winter. The other plus is that it’s only one hour drive, if we needed to get home for any emergency, etc…

We certainly were not disappointed as we pulled up to the front of the hotel.  The hotel and its surroundings were breathtakingly beautiful overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.  The hotel itself is not mammoth since it has only four floors, making it very cozy but not oppressively crammed.  Every single room has a view of the ocean, the room deco is classy and up-to-date given the fact that it’s been opened since 2003.  The front desk staff didn’t treat us any different just because we used Marriott points, they even upgraded us to a more spacious room.

The hotel even has a heated pool, hot tub, sauna and spa, which we took advantage of during our stay.  My husband would never have stepped into a spa for a facial or a massage.  But his wife feels otherwise.  Who wouldn’t want to be pampered?  With that said, I booked a facial for him but only letting him know the day before.  He was a good sport though, he went through with it but thought it was nice but a waste of money, well I guess somebody has to be practical.  It was hilarious that he found out everything about Erica, our masseuse, since he felt uncomfortable with the silence.  Thanks for taking care of my husband Erica!

There was a “Winter Wine Festival” at the hotel while we were there.  We had the Sunday brunch featuring Chandon, sparkling wine for mimosas, and let me tell you-it was worth every penny.  I think it was the first time in two years where we didn’t have to “chew and screw” or having to cut anyone’s food.

We spent two leisurely hours savoring the delicious fares, such as seared duck, lamb roast, raw oysters on half shelf (which I had 37 of, I thought they were going to cut me off), desserts to die for, just to name a few.  We absolutely love the food at all of Marriotts hotels.  The chef at this hotel trained under Wolfgang Puck and Todd English, and it really showed.  My mouth is watering as we speak!  But besides from the delicious food, the staff was incredibly friendly, professional but not stuffy at all.  I found my napkin folded neatly every time I left the table, I can’t say enough about the impeccable service we’ve experienced during this past weekend at Wentworth by the Sea.

We did venture out to Portsmouth, NH which is only a ten minute drive from the hotel with all kinds of restaurants, shops to browse and breweries to sample.  There’s this one quaint bakery calls Popovers on the Square that offers all sorts of pastries, hot drinks and popovers.  I absolutely love popovers, and I have yet to find them anywhere except at this bakery.  Check it out if you’re in town.

Anyway, we’re so looking forward to our next trip to Wentworth by the Sea in two years if we’re lucky.  But in the mean time, back to reality and here’s wishing my hubbie an incredible 40th birthday (today).  I count my lucky stars every day for you, I’m thankful for the Fate that has brought us together, you are the Yin to my Yang and I love you with all my heart and soul!!

Our waitress was so nice and thoughtful, she asked me if I wanted to have a plate decorated and prepared with a few delicious treats for his birthday.

Oh my! The hotel is gorgeous!!!
I’m so jealous! I can’t even tell you how long it’s been since we went away together. I was planning a trip for us to Vegas but my hubby felt the kids are still too small for us to leave them behind, pfft! Party pooper, lol.
Anyway, so glad you had a wonderful time.
Happy Birthday to your hubby!
